Domaine Clot De L’Oum
Fenouillèdes
In the Pyrenees foothills of southern France, a small domaine dedicated to producing mineral, fresh wines with a clear expression of terroir can be found. Originally Eric & Lèia Monné established Domaine Clot de l’Oum (Catalan for “hill of the elms”) in 1998, crafting beautiful wines pure and sensitive to the land. Looking for successors who would continue what they started, brothers Arthur and Eddy Bertrand stepped in 2020. Farming 12ha of vineyards in Fenouillèdes, the area is known to have a fairly dry climate with soils of mineral-rich granite, schist, and gneiss, at an altitude of 400-600m above the sea. Certified organic since 2000, farming practices employ biodynamic principles in the vineyard with vines averaging 50 years without irrigation and no use of chemical products. Harvests are done by hand and a natural approach is taken in the cellar with indigenous years, no additions (acid/enzymes), and the use of older oak to age and promote air exchange but limit oak flavours. Both Arthur and Eddy’s goals are to craft wines that reflect and express the richness of their terroir through a perfect balance of tradition, respect for the environment, and innovation.
