Ruchottes - Chambertin Grand Cru

2014 - Excellent spring, but a hailstorm in late June reduced yields for some. Tricky summer with hot days and chilly/wet days, conditions improved to be warm and dry in August.

2016 - Devastating frost in April resulted in limited production for many, challenges combating mildew for some, but a warm dry summer helped to achieve good ripeness overall.

All vintages have fruit from a small 0.08ha (8.5 rows of vines) within Ruchottes du Bas. Stony limestone soils with vines were planted in 1980. Fermentation is in an old foudre with 100% whole cluster (when possible), 18-month maturation in new oak (usually only 1 barrel made per vintage).

Tasting Note: 2014 - Aromas of dark berry fruit – black plum, cherry, and blackberry with hints of flint and oak spice. Full and rich on the palate, intense dark fruit core, good acidity, firm tannins starting to soften, and mineral on the long complex finish.

2016 - Aromas of black & red berries – blackcurrants, plum, black cherry with hints of earth and licorice spice. Rich and layered on the palate with a concentrated fruit core, earth, oak spices, firm tannins, fresh acidity, amazing texture and a lengthy spicy finish.
