Gevrey-Chambertin Au Vellé
2017 - Warm spring with frost mostly avoided. Hot/warm weather for spring and summer leading to an early harvest. Picking dates are essential due to the risk of rain. A plentiful harvest. Fruit from a parcel in Au Vellé, lower on the slope next to 1er cru’s Les Champeaux & Petits Cazetiers. Vines were planted in 1979 on stony red clay soils. 100% de-stemmed fruit with 12-18 months aging in oak, 30% new.
Tasting Note:
2017 - Fresh aromas of black cherry, plum with a hint of black pepper. Medium-bodied with ripe red & black fruit, mineral, fine tannins with a slight grip, fresh acidity, and some oak spice on the finish.
