Gruenspiel Rouge
Pinot Noir from the Gruenspiel vineyard, a natural amphitheatre in Bergheim facing south. Soils are dark with a mix of sandstone deposits, granite, and gneiss on a marl bedrock. Historically produced as a white, the first red was the 2016 vintage. Wines are generally powerful with a warm mineral note and polished tannins, an “iron fist in a velvet glove”
Le jeu des verts – “green game” references a checkerboard, due to the diverse soils of the terroir.
Tasting Note: Aromas of kirsch, plum, and blackberry with hints of violets, spice, and dark earth on the nose. Medium weight with good richness on the palate, a black/red berry fruit core layered with earthy notes, taut acidity, firm tannins, finessed, and a long mineral finish.
