Beykush Winery
Mykolaiv
A family-run winery, their 11 hectares of vines are located on the plateau between the estuaries of Bugsky and Berezansky of the southern steppe in the Mykolaiv region of southern Ukraine. After years of soil analysis, Beykush saw their first vintage in 2014 and have received great acclaim ever since.
The vineyards sit on a mixture of red clay and loam, which provides excellent drainage. Furthermore, due to their proximity to water, the temperatures are quite moderate. Luckily, there is enough wind in the region to reduce the amount of disease pressure, allowing them to refrain from using pesticides and instead, use sustainable and organic applications. The region sees 225 days of sunshine, yet the water and wind prevent soil from getting too warm, thereby ensuring wonderful acidity in the grapes.
Beykush grows several different grape varietals, with Telki Kuruk, an indigenous Ukrainian grape, being their flagship and they are the only winery in the area working with this varietal. Otherwise, they grow Georgian, French, Spanish and Italian varietals.
